Michael Malvasi III gets jail time for assault
YOUNGSTOWN — A Canfield man who police said was the driver in a fatal accident earlier this year was sentenced today to 30 days in municipal court on an assault charge.
Visiting Judge David Fuhry sentenced Michael Malvasi III, 27, after he was convicted in February by a jury. The charges stem from a November 2016 incident.
Malvasi was given credit for two days already served and had 90 days suspended. He has until Saturday to report to the Mahoning County jail. He also must undergo drug and alcohol counseling.
Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in March said Malvasi was a driver in a fatal accident earlier this year in which a man died. He has not yet been charged in that case but he is under indictment for possession of hashish and trafficking of hashish after a search warrant was served at his home in August.
