AKRON

Alex Cardona struck out nine and pitched a complete game for the Spartans (6-4). Dom Stilliana went 3 for 3, scored twice and drove in a run for Boardman. Evan Knaus had two hits and two RBIs and Mike Fetsko had two hits and scored twice.

Canfield 7, Howland 3

HOWLAND

The Cardinals scored five times in the seventh inning to win. Angelo Petraci tripled and doubled and Dom Pilollo also had two hits. Anthony Longo drove in two runs and Alex Hernandez scored twice for the Cards. Ricky Havrilla earned the win in relief. For the Tigers, Hayden Parker had two hits and Dylan Beasom drove in two runs.

Lakeview 2, South Range 1

CORTLAND

Pitchers Brady Dixon and Sam Brooks combined on a three-hitter for South Range (2-6).

Niles 10, Struthers 6

NILES

Niles scored six runs in the fifth to rally from a 5-3 deficit. Joe Gallo, Marco DeFalco and Luke Swauger each had two hits, with Swauger collecting two RBIs and Gallo hitting a double. Chase Sudzina went six innings for the Red Dragons, giving up five runs on six hits, walking four and striking out two. Chad Laczko hit a two-run double for Struthers. Anthony Monaco gave up six earned runs to take the loss.

Springfield 13, Waterloo 1

ATWATER

Drew Clark had three hits and three RBIs and Mitch Seymour and Shane Eynon each had two hits and three RBIs for the Tigers (5-1, 4-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference). John Ritter also had two hits for Springfield, Seymour had a triple and Brandon Walters had a double. Brannon Brungard pitched a three-hitter and struck out five for the win.

Western Reserve 7-9, Sebring 0-1

BERLIN CENTER

In the opener, Dallas Smith (1-0) tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out seven and walked one. Ryan Demsky’s two hits drove in two runs and he scored twice. Seth Phillips and Dan Windham doubled. In the second game, Jake Pappagallo (1-0) scattered four hits in four innings to get the win. Caleb Quinn tripled and doubled while Demsly, Cody Wise and Garrett Milhalick each had two hits. For the Trojans, Camden Green had two hits and drove in the run.

West Branch 13, Salem 8

SALEM

TJ DeShields’ homered and doubled to drive in five runs. Seth Schroeder had three hits and Moser Walker two for the Warriors (5-1, 3-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). For the Quakers (3-2, 0-2), Brayden Gibson’s three hits included a double. Ricky Erloin and Bruce Owen each had two hits.

Mathews 14, Southington 3

SOUTHINGTON

Jackson Iceman had three hits, including two doubles for Mathews (4-0). Jake Miller hit a home run and Andy Miller had two hits. Jackson Gillis struck out eight to get his first win of the season.

Maplewood 3, Bristol 2

BRISTOLVILLE

The Rockets (3-1, 2-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) scored a run in the top of the seventh to edge the Panthers (1-2, 0-2). Bates pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight for the win. Landon Slusher struck out seven and scattered six hits for Bristol. Moran had a double for Maplewood.

Boardman 10, Harding 2

STRUTHERS

Stilliana, Mike Melewski and Dylan Gurski each had two hits for Boardman (5-4). Cameron Kreps struck out five and walked four to get the while Tyler Peterson got the save. Cameron Knupp and Matt Williams each had a hit and a run scored for Warren Harding.

SOFTBALL

South Range 2, Kirtland 0

AKRON

Bree Kohler pitched a three-hit shutout and drove in the only runs with a 10th-inning single at Firestone Stadium. Kohler struck out 10 and helped her own cause with three singles, including the game-winning hit for South Range (6-2).

Boardman 13, Howland 2

HOWLAND

Jenny Taraszewski earned the pitching win while Ashley Saxton, Alicia Saxton and Lauren Maughan had three hits for the Spartans. Paige Dill had two hits.

Lakeview 4, Newton Falls 3

CORTLAND

Tori Wells led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a game-winning, walk-off home run for the Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0 All-American Conference White). The Tigers’ Tara Backherms hit a two-out, two-run homer to tie the game at 3 in the top of the seventh. Avrey Steiner doubled twice for Lakeview and Courtnie Georgalas singled twice for Newton Falls (2-1, 2-0). Cait Kelm scattered six hits for the victory. She struck out six. Kelm and McKenna Cannon each had a double for the Bulldogs.

Canfield 8, Austintown 5

AUSTINTOWN

Kalin Kovach and Mary Gomez hit home runs as the Cardinals (5-2) beat the Falcons (1-3). Kovach also tripled and drove in three runs and Amber Rose singled three times for Canfield. Ashley Fuller homered and drove in three runs for Fitch. Lainie Simons and Ashley Mickey each had two hits.

Brookfield 15-18, Campbell 0-1

BROOKFIELD

In the opener, winning pitcher Gabby Schiska’s three hits included two triples. She drove in four runs. Julie First had two hits while Sheridan Rotunno and Bailey Drapola doubled. In the second game, Drapola and Ciara Sunkuc combined to toss a five-inning no-hitter. Drapola and Becca Litz each had four hits. Three of Drapola’s were home runs.

Springfield 6, Waterloo 2

ATWATER

Jacqueline Kish was the winning pitcher on her birthday. She scattered 11 hits, struck out four and walked three. Cassie Bacon hit a three-run home run. Makenzy Capoullez and Molly Pontius each hit a double. Amber Cieplinski had three hits for Waterloo.

Champion 12, Girard 0

GIRARD

Sophie Howell pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine. Allison Smith homered twice and Emma Gumont had four hits — including a double and triple — in the Golden Flashes’ rout of the Indians. Abbi Grace also homered for Champion (5-0), which blew open a 2-0 game with a 10-run fourth inning. Megan Turner had two hits. Smith and Gumont each drove in four runs and Grace had three RBIs.

Western Reserve 15-13, Sebring 0-6

BERLIN CENTER

Layla Woolf threw a one-hitter in the first game, striking out eight and walking three. She hit a two-run homer. Morgan Donithan added two hits for three RBIs.

West Branch 11, Minerva 0

BELOIT

Kelsey Byers tossed a five-inning two-hitter, striking out eight and walking none for the Warriors (5-0, 4-0 NBC). Peyton Alazaus’ three hits drove in two runs. Jordan Anderson and Grace Heath also had three hits while Hannah Sprague had two. Byers and Delaney Rito doubled. For the Lions, Aubrey Stanford and Gabby Street singled.

SOUTHINGTON

In five innings, Addy Jarvis struck out 12, walked one and gave up two hits for Mathews (5-0). At the plate, Jarvis was 3-for-3 with two triples. Lena Wallace was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Bella Spano was 3-4 with three runs scored. McKenzie Schwab hit a double for Southington (3-2).

Erica Ramsey struck out eight and pitched a no-hitter. Ramsey and Brooke Morgan each had two hits as Badger twice scored six runs in an inning.
