Cordray questions DeWine call to speaker facing FBI scrutiny

COLUMBUS

Democrat Richard Cordray says it was “highly inappropriate” for Ohio’s attorney general to call Republican House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger in the middle of a federal investigation and the exchange should be investigated.

Cordray said Wednesday that Attorney General Mike DeWine, a GOP gubernatorial rival, apparently used the call to advise Rosenberger on “how he should handle himself in that investigation.”

At issue is a call DeWine made to Rosenberger on Friday after reading the lawmaker had hired a lawyer amid FBI questioning.

The 36-year-old Republican Rosenberger, who’s term-limited, resigned Tuesday, effective May 1.

Police: Woman attacks 2 people after dog eats her marijuana

SPRINGFIELD

Police in Ohio say a dog ate a woman’s stash of pot, leading the woman to attack two other women because the dog’s owner refused to pay for the marijuana.

Springfield police say 20-year-old Desarae Smith was arrested Monday and charged with assault. Clark County Municipal Court records don’t list an attorney for her.

The Springfield News-Sun reports Smith became upset with an unidentified woman because the woman’s dog ate Smith’s marijuana.

Officers say Smith stormed out of the woman’s house, when asked to leave, and assaulted two women. Police pulled Smith away and arrested her.

Not all pot businesses will open by deadline

COLUMBUS

Regulators of Ohio’s new medical-marijuana program say not all of the state’s growers, manufacturers and dispensaries will be operational by the legislated deadline of Sept. 8.

Department of Commerce Director Jacqueline Williams, whose agency oversees marijuana businesses, says not all the licensed businesses will be open by that day. Cleveland.com reports state officials confirmed the news during a meeting last week in Columbus.
