“Harry Potter: A HISTORY OF MAGIC” (8 P.M., THE CW): The 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book is celebrated by thee British Library, which reveals the magical history behind J.K. Rowling’s beloved classics. Rowling opens her private archive to reveal drawings and drafts that have been hidden away for years, and her writing is brought to life with readings from actors from the “Harry Potter” films.

“GI Jews” (10 P.M., PBS): The story of the 55,000 Jewish Americans who served in World War II is revealed.

“Conan Without Borders: ITALY” (10 p.m., TBS): Comedian Conan O’Brien goes on the road for this one-hour special.

Composers, sax studio recitals

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music will present two studio recitals: the Composers Studio, directed by David Morgan, at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Bliss Recital Hall, lower level of Bliss Hall; and the Saxophone Studio, directed by James Umble, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Composers’ Ensemble will perform original new works composed by students, and performed by both faculty and student groups and soloists.

The Saxophone Studio’s recital will include work by classical and contemporary composers and be performed by members of the saxophone studio and accompanists.

Share personal history at event

CANFIELD

The Canfield Historical Society will present a History Show and Tell at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bond House, 44 W. Main St., at which area residents can share a piece of their personal history.

The public is invited to bring old photos, letters, family mementos or any artifact to show and discuss. Examples would include an old letter parents wrote to one another during the war, a treasured personal item, an artifact passed down through generations or a photo of Canfield in times past.

Participants don’t have to bring items to show and tell — they can just attend to learn about local history. Canfield Historical Society curator Laura Zeh-Vazquez will share a few seldom-seen oldies from the archives, and president Suzie McCabe will share some interesting tidbits of local history.

Admission is free and pre-registration is not necessary. For information, call 330-533-3458.

The Canfield Historical Society is also continuing its Canfield history scanning project. Residents can bring photos or documents relating to Canfield history that will be scanned in order to be preserved in the collection.
