BASEBALL

Boardman 13, Warren Harding 6

BOARDMAN

Boardman pitcher Travis Harvey had four strikeouts, three walks and gave up one run in 41/3 innings of work for the Spartans (4-4). Evan Knaus was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Luke Cardillo had two RBIs, and Dom Stilliana was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Warren Harding’s Corey McPherson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Brandon Arnold was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Dontai Young was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Hubbard 6, Lakeside 1

HUBBARD

Ryan Halavick got the win for Hubbard (3-3, 1-0). Halavick pitched a complete game — striking out nine, walking two and allowing two hits. Jamie Thomson, Tim Herberger, Dom Hover and Anthony Corrin had two hits a piece for the Eagles. Thomson had two doubles and Herburger had one. Grant Kingston struck out five and walked three for Lakeside (2-2, 0-2).

Lakeview 6, Edgewood 1

ASHTABULA

Lakeview led 2-1 to start the top of the seventh, but the Bulldogs scored four runs in the final inning to push the game out of reach. Edgewood led 1-0 after the first inning. Lakeview’s Kevin Ellsworth-Myers went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brendan Kilpatrick and Preston Sheets drove in one run a piece. Austin Vogt got the win for the Bulldogs. He allowed one unearned run, five hits and a walk in 61/3 innings. Vogt had 12 strikeouts.

Liberty 3, Brookfield 2

LIBERTY

Kevin Hawn tripled and hit two doubles for the Leopards (6-1, 4-1 All-American Conference Blue Tier). Hawn scored all three runs. James Spisak had to RBIs. Winning pitcher Trevor Strohmeyer (3-0) struck out six and walked three. Dwight Parker earned the save. For the Warriors (0-1, 0-1), Connor Filipovich doubled while Eric Shingledecker and Jacob Ratliff drove in the runs.

Springfield 9, Mineral Ridge 8

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Jarrett Orbin capped a seven-run fifth inning by driving John Slike and Brannon Brungard with the Tigers’ final runs. Orbin doubled and scored twice. Drew Clark had two RBIs for the Tigers (3-1, 1-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference). John Ritter was the winning pitcher. For the Rams, Taylor Squiric had two RBIs while Dakota Edwards and Koby Zupko had a hit.

Jackson-Milton 9, Sebring 0

NORTH JACKSON

Sebastian Lay pitched 32/3 shutout innings for Jackson-Milton (2-3, 1-1). Lay allowed one hit, no walks and struck out 10. Sebring’s (1-1, 0-1) Brandon Gray also pitched 32/3 innings. He allowed five walks and struck out four. The Blue Jays had eight hits. Lay had two hits, including a double. James Harris drove in two runs for Jackson-Milton.

McDonald 15, Waterloo 7

ATWATER

McDonald committed six errors in the win. Zach Nolf pitched five innings for the Blue Devils. Nolf allowed seven runs, only one earned, and struck out five. Ryan Scala pitched two scoreless innings for the Blue Devils. Scala allowed one hit and a walk. Nate Ifft and Logan Shields had two hits a piece and drove in three runs each. Waterloo pitcher Trey Jones allowed 12 runs, four earned, in five innings of work.

Mathews 12, Pymatuning Valley 0

ANDOVER

Dillon Canter had a career-high eight RBIs on two hits for Mathews, including a double. Dan Canter had two RBIs for the Mustangs. Mathews’ pitcher Brandon Smith picked up his first win of the season in a one-hit shutout. Smith had four strikeouts and two walks. Pymatuning Valley’s Jacob Gabriel received the loss. Gabriel struck out three and walked four.

Girard 23, East 0

YOUNGSTOWN

Nick Malito, Braydon Freeland and Matt Miles combined to throw a no-hitter. Shawn Leasure led the Indians at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

SOFTBALL

Mathews 9, Pymatuning Valley 0

ANDOVER

Addy Jarvis broke the Mustangs’ record for the most strikeouts in seven innings with 20. Jarvis gave up one walk while throwing a no-hitter. She broke Cheyenne Eggens’ record of retiring 18 in seven innings. Eggens — who currently pitches for South Florida — holds the record for strikeouts beyond seven innings with 34 in 13 innings. Bailey Hall had three hits and an RBI for the Mustangs. Olivia Baupel and Ashley Deans each had two hits and Alivia Oulton hit a double.

Ursuline 10, Akron SVSM 6

YOUNGSTOWN

Destiny Goodnight, Jenna O’Hara and Emily Holland each had two hits for the Irish (7-0) at YSU Softball Complex. Julia Nutter and Maris Barbato doubled while Jordyn Kenneally recorded her fifth win. Holland recorded the save. Both struck out four.

Lakeview 17, Edgewood 7

ASHTABULA

Winning pitcher Cait Kelm struck out 12 and walked seven for the Bulldogs. Avery Steiner had four hits including two doubles. Marissa Zocalli had three hits while Kelm, Tori Wells and Olivia Kelm each had two.

Hubbard 13, Lakeside 2

HUBBARD

Jackie Adler scattered five hits, striking out five and walking none. Emma Wukelich had three hits including a double and scored three runs for the Eagles. She had two RBIs. Sydney Newell’s two hits included a triple and drove in two runs. Adler also had two hits and two RBIs while Kayla Chmelik doubled. For Lakeside, Alyvia Dalrymple had three hits.

Newton Falls 7, LaBrae 6

NEWTON FALLS

Josie Madison led the Tigers with two hits and Taylor Bednarcik scored three runs. Madison and Alex Staton doubled. Staton and Micaiah Butlar each ahd two RBIs. For the Vikings, Corrina scored twice while Desi Allen doubled and drove in three runs.

Brookfield 22, Liberty 0

LIBERTY

Bailey Drapola smacked two home runs for the Warriors. Sheridan Rotunno added two doubles and Gabby Schiska — the game’s winning pitcher — hit a triple. Schiska gave up a hit in five innings.

Springfield 16, Mineral Ridge 6

NEW MIDDLETOWN

After the Rams scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead, Springfield scored five runs in the home half of the fifth. The Tigers added eight runs in the sixth inning, including a three-run home run by Mya Duskey. Duskey also had a pair of doubles and scored three times. Madison Mullen finished with three singles, drove in three RBIs and scored twice. Cassie Bacon hit two doubles and drove in two. Kaelen Yemma hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs. Molly Pontius hit a solo home run for Springfield. Abby Joseph picked up the mound win, in relief of Jacqueline Kish.

Jackson-Milton 13, Sebring 2

NORTH JACKSON

Jackson-Milton led 2-0 before scoring 10 in the bottom of the third inning. Taylor Sahli led the Blue Jays with two hits and three RBIs. Madde Hyland and Camryn Mitchell drove in two runs each for Jackson-Milton (2-0). Addison Brendlinger drove in Sebring’s (0-1) only two runs of the game. Hyland pitched two innings for the Blue Jays. She allowed two hits and struck out five.

McDonald 9, Waterloo 6

ATWATER

Megan Ward’s three hits included a homer and she scored four runs for the Blue Devils (1-1, 1-0 MVAC). Ali Dean had three singles. Hannah Donkers two hits included a double. Also with two hits were Rachel Ward, Katie Donkers and Bree Callow. For the Vikings (2-1, 1-1) Amber Cietoinski tripled and doubled.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Cardinal Mooney 11, Poland 10 OT

POLAND

Mia Stana scored twice, including the game-winner for Mooney. Mariah Ferragher had a hit trick and Katie Enright and Jordyn Austin each scored two goals. Olivia Alfano and Lexi Saunders each had a goal. Galena Lopuchovsky scored four times for Poland. Sydney Phillips, Marissa Ricciardi and Ally Andrews each scored twice in defeat.

Canfield 17, Boardman 0

CANFIELD

Canfield (1-2) scored 12 goals in the first half. Canfield was led by Senior Sarah Green and Sophomore Tara Green with three goals each. Isabelle Kelty, Shiane Donnarummno, Clair Cresciaman, Athena Poullas and Mia Malvasi each scored twice for Canfield. Ashley Thompson had a goal. Sarah Miller and Mara Guerierri shared goalie duties in the shutout.
