State fire marshal to probe fire that killed elderly woman

The Ohio State Fire Marshal will investigate a fatal structure fire that killed a 91-year-old woman Saturday evening.

Brookfield Fire Department Capt. Matt Gordon said a firefighter dragged the woman out of her Drake Stateline Road Northeast home and performed CPR before she was transported to Trumbull Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Brookfield, Vienna, Fowler and Johnston township fire departments and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station responded to the call.

Officials have not released the victim’s name, but Gordon said she was the grandmother of a Brookfield firefighter who responded to the call.
