Darkness downtown due to electrical upgrades

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Power along parts of Front Street was out Saturday morning and expected to be back on about 10:30 p.m. as Ohio Edison worked on system improvements, including replacing a transformer at the intersection of West Federal and Market streets downtown, an Ohio Edison spokesman said.

Customers were notified the power would be out temporarily before Ohio Edison began making upgrades, the spokesman said.

Utility workers were seen at work along Market across from the Mahoning County Courthouse.

There were stop signs at the intersections on Front Street where the power was out, for drivers to treat it as a four-way stop. A police officer directed traffic during the work.

The utility company workers pushed to get the project done before fans left the Youngstown Phantoms vs. Chicago Steel hockey game at the Covelli Centre on Front Street. The game started at 7:05 p.m.
