BASEBALL

Austintown Fitch 5, Cardinal Mooney 1

STRUTHERS

Cole Constance and two relievers combined on a two-hitter as the Falcons (3-3) beat the Cardinals (0-1). Constance worked the first three innings, Kenny Misik pitched two innings and Tom Pitko pitched the sixth and seventh. Kole Klasic had three hits and two RBIs for Fitch. Nick Belcik had two hits and Nick Bianco singled in two runs. Johnnie Mokis and J.T. Ogden had the only Cardinal Mooney hits.

Liberty 9, Crestview 2

EAST FAIRFIELD

Trevor Strohmeyer had two hits and pitched five scoreless innings as the Leopards (4-1) beat the Rebels (1-1). Kevin Hawn and Ty Leshnack each added two hits for Liberty. Devan Turvey and Stephen Barr each had two hits for Crestview.

Niles 5, Meade County (Ky.) 4

NILES

A four-run seventh inning by Niles led to a walkoff win. Chase Sudzina pitched six innings for the Red Dragons. Sudzina allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and struck out four. Michael Holloway picked up the win after pitching a scoreless seventh. Zach Leonard, Marco DeFalco, Nick Guarnieri and Joe Gallo drove in one run each. Meade County led 4-1 going into the seventh inning.

Ursuline 6, Lakeview 3

STRUTHERS

Colin Baias was 3 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI for the winning side. Andrew Sabella knocked home a run while going 2 for 3. Glenn Griswold went the distance while striking out four for the Irish. No stats were reported for Lakeview.

South Range 5, Berea (S.C.) 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

South Range scored two runs in the first inning and added another to lead 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Sam Brooks (1-0) pitched six innings and had four strikeouts for the Raiders (2-2). South Ranges’ Jake Gehring drove in three runs on three hits.

Springfield 2, Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA

Four pitchers held the Clippers (1-3) to two hits and one run. Chris Thompson got the win and Jarrett Orbin had the save. Brandon Walters drove in Clay Nesbeth in the fifth inning for the go-ahead run. Seven different players had hits for Springfield (2-0). Evan Kenneally (0-1) got the loss after pitching five innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, and had a strikeout and a walk. Zach Fahs pitched two perfect frames to finish the game for the Clippers. Fahs singled in Chase Franken in the fourth inning for the Clippers’ only run.

Lowellville 3, Jackson-Milton 2

NORTH JACKSON

Nate Solak hit a triple for Lowellville and drove in two runs for the win. Sebastian Lay had 12 strikeouts and held the Rockets to three hits in seven innings. Sebastian and Devan Christoff had two hits a piece for Jackson-Milton. Anthony Petrovich threw a complete game and struck out six for the Rockets.

West Branch 4, Minerva 2

MINERVA

Jon Snyder hit a double for West Branch (3-0, 1-0) and drove in two RBIs. Seth Schroeder finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Gino Sabatine threw 61/3 innings for the Warriors. He allowed eight hits and two runs with striking out nine. Brock Croston drove in a run for Minerva (2-1, 1-1).

SOFTBALL

Springfield 3, Columbiana 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN

The Tigers picked up their first win of the season thanks to pitcher Jacqueline Kish, who fired a four-hit shutout. Kish struck out two and walked one. Makenzy Capouellez and Mya Duskey each had a double while Kish and Marlie Applegarth chipped in with one single each to pace the Springfield offense. Abby Joseph, Capouellez and Kish each drove in a run. Great defensive catches were made by center fielder Kaelen Yemma and left fielder Carlee Bacon to keep the Clippers from scoring.

Ursuline 13, Pleasure Ridge Park (Ky.) 10

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

The Lady Irish (5-0) scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Freshman Julia Nutter ignited the rally with a bases loaded triple. Destiny Goodnight added an RBI single later in the inning as she tallied three hits and three runs scored for the game. Juniors Jenna O’Hara & Gia Caldrone each hit a single, double and two RBIs while Maris Barbato added two hits. Freshman Emily Holland added three hits and pitched five innings of relief. She allowed four hits and struck out seven.

Poland 11, Struthers 6

POLAND

Poland’s Sarah Boccieri had a home run, two RBIs and scored twice. Ally Nitolli had a home run and double and scored three runs. Cam Lattanzio had four hits including two doubles, scored twice and had two RBIs for Poland. Struthers’ Trinity Farrar had three hits, including a home run, two RBIs and scored once and Khaylah Brown had a triple and scored once.

Boardman 8, Wayland 3 (Mass.)

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Boardman scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added four more in the fourth inning to break the game open. Boardman pitcher Jenny Taraszewski threw a complete game, striking out six. Alicia Saxton and Carina Cummings both had three hits and two runs scored to lead the Spartans (3-1). Vanessa Roush had an in-the-park home run.

South Range 5, Pleasure Ridge Park (Ky.) 4, 9 Innings

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

South Range pitcher Bree Kohler threw nine innings in the win. She had 11 strikeouts and one walk. Kohler, Hope Thomas, Julie Centefonti, Maddie Helon and Marlaina Slabach had two singles each. Thomas drove in the winning run on a walkoff single.

Crestview 20, Liberty 5

EAST FAIRFIELD

Crestview (3-4) scored 13 runs in the first inning. Trinity Boston and Haley Eskra each hit a triple. Skyler Mattern had three RBI on two hits Mackenzie Daub earned the win on the mound. Savanna Houk and Melanie Bardel had one hit each for Liberty.

Louisville 10, Salem 0

LOUISVILLE

The Leopards scored five runs in the fifth to run-rule the Quakers. Louisville’s Sarah Cantley struck out 11 while giving up one hit. Alyssa Laubacher had the lone hit for Salem.

Mathews 5, Northwestern 2

WEST SALEM

Addy Jarvis struck out 15 and give up two runs on a walk and six hits for the Mustangs, who won their season-opener. Bailey Hall had a double and a triple for the winners, scoring two runs and collecting two RBI. Ally St. Clair hit a two-run home run for Northwestern.-0), Hannah Fricke struck out nine and gave up eight hits to take the loss for Northwestern.

West Branch 10, Carrollton 1

BELOIT

Grace Heath went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for West Branch (3-0, 2-0). Delaney Rito, Kylie Coffelt and Peyton Alazaus drove in two runs each. Kelsey Byers had nine strikeouts and allwed three hits for the Warriors. West Branch led 2-1 at the start of the fifth inning, but combined for eight runs in the fifth and sixth.

BOARDMAN

Marissa Ricciardi scored four goals and Addison Kaschak, Allyson Andrews and Galena Lopuchovsky each had two as the Bulldogs beat the Spartans. Sydney Phillips and Marissa Mangino each scored a goal and Lopuchovsky and Emillie Franco each had an assist for Poland. Lopuchovsky had six ground balls and Kaschak had four. Dani scott and Ellie Kempers each had an interception. Goalie Carly Boccia made 12 saves for Poland. Paige Jankayski scored four goals for Boardman and Lily Essad had one.
