WEDNESDAY’S PREP RESULTS


BASEBALL

Independence (W.Va.) 11, South Range 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Brandon Youngs and Matt Lucas each had a double for South Range (1-2). Fisher Horton pitched six innings for Independence, striking out seven to get the win.

Waccamaw (S.C.) 3, Canfield 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Alex Hernandez, Angelo Petracci, and Ian McGraw had one hit each for Canfield (1-1). The Cardinals gave up just two hits, but Waccamaw scored all of its runs on walks.

East Rutherford (N.C.) 9, Canfield 6

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Canfield couldn’t hold on to a 5-1 fifth-inning lead. East Rutherford scored eight runs in the fifth to take command of the game. Angelo Petracci, Spencer Wooley, and Jimmy Fitzgerald had two hits each for Canfield.

SOFTBALL

South Range 13, East Side (Va.) 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Bree Kohler struck out 11 and pitched a five-inning perfect game for the Raiders in the Grand Strand Classic. Kohler also helped her own cause with two hits and four stolen bases. Madison Weaver had three hits and two RBIs for South Ranhge (3-2) and Hanna Dennison singled, doubled and drove in three runs. The Raiders are scheduled to meet Pleasure Ridge Park, Ky., at 8 a.m. today.

Canfield 12, Mount de Sales (Md.) 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Mallory Vaclav had a triple and scored three runs for Canfield (2-1). Vaclav also had two steals. Brooke Crissman also tripled and scored three runs.

Dunkirk (N.Y.) 14, Boardman 6

Vanessa Roush had 3 hits and Paige Dill had 2 doubles for the Spartans in an opening day game at the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Tournament.

Boardman 19, Mercyhurst Prep (Pa.) 4

MYRTLE BEACH S.C.

Alicia Sacton and Gloria Hyned had three hits each to lead the Boardman offense. Lauren Maughan, Brooke Hoffman, and Jenny Taraszewski each had 2 hits. Taraszewski was also the winning pitcher.

Canfield 11, Socastee (S.C.) 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

KaiLi Gross gave up just one run and struck out eight batters over four innings of work for Canfield. Taylor Lampe led the Cardinals offense with three hits and three RBIs. Gross added two hits and two RBIs at the plate.

Salem 3, Nicholas County (Ky.) 0

PIGEON FORGE, TENN.

Taylor Thorpe pitched a complete game, striking out 16 batters and allowing just three hits for Salem (3-0). Bailee thorn and Alyssa Laubacher had a homerun each for the Quakers.

Salem 9, Somerset (Ky.) 4

PIGEON FORGE, TENN.

Taylor Thorpe added another dominant performance, striking out 10 over 5 2/3 innings for Salem (4-0). Hayden Carner nearly hit for the cycle, tallying a singly, double, and a triple for the Quakers. Sydney Kline also had three hits.

Salem 15, Fairview (Ky.) 8

PIGEON FORGE, TENN.

Taylor Thorpe imroved her record to 5-0 on the season, striking out 12 over 4 2/3 shutout innings for Salem (5-0). Thorpe also ahd two triples. Hayden Carner, Elly Exline, Sydney Kline and Alyssa Laubacher all ahd two hits each.

Boardman 6, Liberty (W.Va.) 5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Paige Dill hit a walk off triple, scoring Kathryn O’Horo and Alicia Saxton for a Boardman (2-1) win. Saxton had three hits in the game, while Dill and Lauren Maughan had two each for the Spartans.

Ursuline 15, SOTA (N.Y.) 3, 5 Innings

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Gia Calderone homered and added two more hits, driving in three runs to elad the Ursuline offense. Emma Ericsona added two hits and two RBIs for the Irish.
