Boardman Park recently hosted the first Boardman Park Disc Golf Open to celebrate the expansion of the Disc Golf Course from 9 to 18 holes. More than 50 players participated in the tournament that was sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Disc Golf Association. The first nine holes, opened in 2017, are located near the Maag Outdoor Theatre and the second nine holes are located through the wooded area of the park, just east of the tennis courts. In the open division, first place winner was Luke Shelton and second place was Kirk Gazdik. In the intermediate division, first place winner was Kyle McClain and second place was Jeff Peck. In the recreational division, first place winner was Glenn Viccaro and second place was a tie between Brian Bensinger and Patrick Durkin. The female recreational division first place winner was Stephanie Ramb.
