YSU to host Ohio History Day

YOUNGSTOWN

The YSU History Department will host the 42nd Region 4 Ohio History Day contest on campus April 7. Ohio History Day is an educational program for students in grades 4 to 12. Each year, students become historians and conduct research based on a yearly theme.

This year’s theme, “Conflict and Compromise,” will inspire students to research a variety of different topics. They conduct research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about the significance of their topics in history and create final projects to present. They create historical papers, original performances, documentaries, creative exhibits and imaginative websites as a result of their research. Ohio History Day is led by the Ohio History Connection and is an affiliate of the National History Day program. Nearly 4,000 students participate in this event all over the state each year.

The contest will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of DeBartolo Hall. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at 3 p.m. and will advance to compete in the state contest at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware on April 21. For information, contact Dr. David Simonelli at 330- 941-1601 or Dsimonelli@ysu.edu.
