Man faces escape charges after fleeing police at hospital

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a homeless man tried to run from police Sunday as he was being treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Johann Pandone, 33, is expected to be arraigned later today in municipal court on a felony charge of escape.

Officers arrested Pandone about 2:05 p.m. Sunday on Mahoning Avenue because he is wanted on warrants out of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

The jail refused to take him because of an abscess on his arm and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

While in the emergency room reports said he ran away and officers searched for about 10 minutes before finding him hiding in a stairwell.
