Man arrested after reports said he flashed gun at downtown bar

YOUNGSTOWN — A Lowellville man is expected to be arraigned later today in municipal court after reports said he was kicked out of a downtown bar late Saturday evening with a gun while he was intoxicated.

Matthew Williams, 23, of East Wood Street, was arrested about 10:20 p.m. on Commerce Street after police were told by the employee of a West Federal Street that Williams and a man he was with were kicked out of the bar for being too intoxicated and Williams showed the employee a 9mm handgun he had before leaving.

Police described the man and officers found Williams, who matched the description, on Commerce Street. Reports said he smelled heavily of alcohol and he told police he has a concealed weapons carry permit.

Officers searched Williams and found the gun, reports said. At the jail, reports said Williams could barely stand up as he was being booked because he was so drunk.
