Federal indictment lists many drug charges for man already in prison

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who once served time on drug trafficking charges from Mahoning County Common Pleas Court had an indictment for similar charges unsealed last week in the U.S. Northern District Court Of Ohio.

Edward Hines III, 29, is facing charges of distribution of heroin, distribution of fentanyl, distribution of heroin and fentantyl, possession with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine and fentanyl and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The indictment was issued March 7 but was not unsealed until Hines, who is in the Lorain Correctional Institution on unrelated charges, was served with it last week.

He is set to be arraigned April 18 in federal court.

The indictment accuses Hines of having the drugs and selling them between Dec. 20, 2016 and July 12, 2017. Because of his previous drug trafficking convictions barring him from having a gun, he is also accused of possessing a .223-caliber assault rifle, an AK-47 assault rifle and a Glock 9mm handgun on July 12.

In 2011, Hines was shot in the shoulder and chest as he was driving down a street in Warren and crashed into a home. No one was in the home at the time.
