Suicide-awareness program planned
DAMASCUS
West Branch Local Schools, in partnership with Help Network of Northeast Ohio and DFC Celebrate Recovery, will sponsor “A Light in a Dark Place: A Suicide Awareness Night” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The event will take place at Damascus Friends Church, 28857 Walnut St. There will be discussions and activities showing there is hope, help and healing available. Athletic department to host ribbon cutting
AUSTINTOWN
Austintown Athletic Department will celebrate 50 years of Fitch baseball with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Coppola Baseball Field. Rich Coppola and Wally Ford, former baseball coaches, will throw out the first pitches on the new field. The first game of the 2018 baseball season will follow at 5 p.m. against Cardinal Mooney High School.
League seeks applicants
YOUNGSTOWN
The Junior Civic League is accepting applications from high school seniors for the 2018 scholarship award. The deadline to apply has been extended to April 16. Scholarships are $1,500 each and are non-renewable. Since its inception, the Junior Civic League has awarded more than $650,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from public or private high schools in the Mahoning Valley. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, and personal qualities and strengths.
