Mike Trout had three hits and two RBIs, Zack Cozart also drove in two runs and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland Athletics. Los Angeles finished with 12 hits. Albert Pujols had two hits and two RBIs, and No. 9 batter Rene Rivera had two hits and scored two runs.

Lance McCullers Jr. struck out 10 in 51/3 innings, Carlos Correa and Jake Marisnick hit two-run homers and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers. Correa and AL MVP Jose Altuve each had four hits and scored twice for the World Series champions. Marisnick hit second homer, connecting early against Matt Moore. McCullers (1-0) was one short of his career high in strikeouts. Elvis Andrus scored all three Texas runs. He hit a solo homer, and later singled and scored on Adrian Beltre’s double.
Blue Jays 5, Yankees 3
TORONTO
Yangervis Solarte hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning and Kevin Pillar added an insurance run by stealing second, third and home to send the Toronto Blue Jays over the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays bounced back from two straight losses. Tyler Austin homered twice for the Yankees. It was Toronto’s first straight steal of home since Aaron Hill did it against New York on May 29, 2007. Justin Smoak had three hits on his bobblehead doll day as the Blue Jays denied New York, under new manager Aaron Boone, its first 3-0 start since 2003. Ryan Tepera (1-0) pitched one inning for the win and Roberto Osuna finished for his first save.
Red Sox 3, Rays 2
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.
Xander Bogaerts homered, Rick Porcello carried a shutout into the sixth inning and the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Bogaerts also doubled in a run, giving him six extra-base hits three days into the season and extending the AL’s longest active hitting streak to 12 games. The shortstop’s second three-hit game boosted his batting average to .667 (8 for 12) with five doubles. Porcello (1-0) shut down the Rays on four hits through five innings, but was unable to get through the sixth.
Twins 6, Orioles 2
BALTIMORE
Minnesota Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson held the Baltimore Orioles hitless over six innings before being replaced by Ryan Pressly, who kept the no-hitter intact until the eighth. Gibson, Pressly and Gabriel Moya combined on a three-hitter to help Minnesota bounce back from an 11-inning, season-opening loss to Baltimore on Thursday.Gibson (1-0) struck out six and walked five. Although the 30-year-old did not allow a runner past first base, manager Paul Molitor figured Gibson had enough after throwing 102 pitches in an early-season game.
White Sox 4, Royals 3
KANSAS CITY, MO.
Wellington Castillo delivered a go-ahead two-run double with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals. Lucas Giolito had kept the White Sox in the game against a stingy Ian Kennedy, turning over a 3-1 deficit to his bullpen. Danny Farquhar (1-0) and the rest of the relief corps managed to shut down the Royals while Castillo and the Chicago offense bailed their starter out.
Nationals 13, Reds 7
CINCINNATI
Adam Eaton had a solo homer among his career-high five hits and Brian Goodwin hit his first career grand slam, powering the Washington Nationals to a victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Easton had a single, a pair of doubles, a homer and a bases-loaded single in his five at-bats. He scored four times and drove in three runs as the Nationals went ahead 9-3.
Mets 6, Cardinals 2
NEW YORK
Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d’Arnaud homered, Todd Frazier drove in three runs and the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals. Jacob DeGrom pitched effectively into the sixth inning and the Mets, under new manager Mickey Callaway, opened at 2-0 for the first time since 2013. DeGrom (1-0) struck out five of the first nine Cardinals he faced. He fanned seven in 52/3 innings.
Braves 15, Phillies 2
ATLANTA
Ender Inciarte drove in four runs with three hits, Ryan Flaherty had four hits and scored four times, and the Atlanta Braves roughed up Vince Velasquez and the Philadelphia Phillies. Brandon McCarthy (1-0) allowed two runs in 51/3 innings in his Braves debut. Six Phillies pitchers allowed 19 hits, and the defense committed four errors. Utility player Pedro Florimon pitched the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Lane Adams.
Rockies 2, Diamondbacks 1
PHOENIX
Charlie Blackmon homered twice and the Colorado Rockies salvaged the final game of their season-opening series in Arizona with a victory over the Diamondbacks. Blackmon, whose three hits in the series were all homers, tied the game with a leadoff drive against Zack Greinke in the sixth inning. He added another leadoff shot against Fernando Salas (0-1) in the eighth.
