Mr. and Mrs. Helsel celebrate 50th anniversary


AUSTINTOWN

Mr. and Mrs. William Helsel of Austintown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a second honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls with friends.

Mr. Helsel and the former Janet Kramer were married June 24, 1967, at the Mahoning United Methodist Church in Youngstown.

Their children are Tricia (Dave) Peters of Greensboro, N.C., and Donna (Cliff) Helsel Scott of Austintown. They also have three grandchildren.

Mrs. Helsel worked from home and as the bookkeeper for Bloomin’ Crazy Florist for 20 years and for Livia Calais Fashions for 10 years until retiring in 2000. She is a member of the Austintown Community Church quilting group and the “Quilts from the Heart” group of Niles, which makes children’s quilts for Akron Children’s Hospital.

Mr. Helsel served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War. He worked as an engineer and a manager for AT&T for 30 years until he retired in 1999. He recently retired after 23 years as president of the Mill Creek Junior Baseball League where he remains a trustee. He is also a member of the Saxon Club.

The couple are members of Western Reserve United Methodist Church in Canfield.
