Freshmade 3D, a Youngstown Business Incubator portfolio company, announced the launch of AMClad, a patent-pending 3-D-printed material.

The material is ideal for producing manufacturing tools, visual aids, large custom sculptures and functional prototypes.

AMClad, an isotropic engineered sand composite, is cost effective, offers a wide variety of surface finishes, and achieves fast turnaround for medium to large sizes, according to a news release.

Freshmade 3D will celebrate the launch of its new product at a Boardman bowling alley. The company created an AMClad bowling ball as a way to demonstrate the strength and versatility of AMClad.

“We believe AMClad has great potential in a wide range of applications. With advantages in durability, strength, production speed and cost, it’s something manufacturers will definitely be interested in,” said Brett Conner of Freshmade 3D, in a statement.

AMClad was invented in April 2016 when Freshmade 3D was commissioned by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber to design and 3-D print two life-sized bobbleheads of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Existing 3-D printing processes were too expensive and unreliable for the project, leading Freshmade 3D to come up with its own solution.

Freshmade 3D works with Humtown Products in Columbiana to further the development and commercialization of AMClad.
