YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University Police Chief Shawn Varso said the police department will partner with other groups on campus to utilize the simulator for distracted driving/impaired driving education from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in Kilcawley Center.

The simulator is designed to raise awareness of the perils of distracted driving. It was donated by the Maria Tiberi Foundation and will make its campus debut at National Women’s Health and Fitness Day.

The foundation has donated 42 driving simulators to police departments, sheriff’s departments, universities, school districts and other agencies across Ohio.

Closed for paving

LEETONIA

The village will be paving State Street between Lisbon Street and Hazel Street on Thursday. This section of State will be closed beginning approximately at 8 a.m. and will remain closed for most of the day for the work to be completed and to allow for curing time for the asphalt. Madison Street, from State to the railroad crossing will also be paved during this time and will be maintaining traffic with one lane in the work zone.

Safety Expo set

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Youngstown Service Office and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will present the 10th annual Northeast Ohio Safety Expo for 2017 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.

There will be 40 educational sessions, more than 50 exhibits and breakfast and lunch for $30. Educational credits can be earned for attendance. Educational sessions have a limited amount of seats. To register for $10 or for information call MCCTC Adult Career Center at 330-729-4100.

Run over by car

YOUNGSTOWN

A night of drinking and playing cards ended with a man run over by a car Monday night.

Cheree Moore, 38, of Weston Avenue and a man arrived to play cards at a West Boston Avenue home. When the man began fighting, the pair refused to leave, witnesses told police.

Moore and the man eventually got into a car and she drove forward and backward in an apparent attempt to hit the people fighting with her and the man, witnesses said.

They added that Moore and the man left before returning and running a man over with her car. Police arrested Moore for felonious assault and cited her for driving with a suspended license.

Reports of misuse

Adding to numerous other reports from the last few days, township police received six reports Monday related to misuse of people’s First National Bank accounts.

Several people reported unauthorized charges had been made or cash had been withdrawn from out-of-state locations, mostly in Maryland. Poland Township police received several similar reports in recent days.
