Penguin parade aims for record

YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State University will attempt to set a record for the largest gathering of people dressed as penguins at an event on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 28, on campus.
The event, which celebrates YSU’s 50th anniversary as a state university, aims to bring together students, alumni, employees and the greater Youngstown community to set a Guinness World Record. The existing record of 624 was set by a group in England. Youngstown State hopes to attract 1,000 participants.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the WATTS center on campus. Costume distribution, dressing and the official Guinness counting will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. The two-hour time frame is a required commitment of participation.
Registration is $10 and includes a brand new, yours-to-keep penguin costume. After the official count, the Penguins will march up Fifth Avenue in the annual YSU Homecoming Parade.

The event is a university-wide collaboration involving athletics, alumni engagement, student activities, retired faculty and the YSU Alumni Society Advisory Board. For information, contact Catherine Cala in the Office of Alumni Engagement at 330-941-2752 or cacala@ysu.edu.
