Civilian Conservation Corps museum gets national recognition

QUIET DELL, W.Va.

The West Virginia Civilian Conservation Corps Museum in Quiet Dell received national recognition during the annual gathering in Greenville, S.C., last weekend.

“We didn’t solicit the award, but we were given the award in recognition that we are the best Civilian Conservation Corps museum in the country in terms of excellence and education,” Dr. Bob Anderson said. He’s a professor emeritus at West Virginia University and a member of the West Virginia State CCC Museum Association.

Located along Quiet Dell School Road in Mount Clare, the museum opened in June 2002 to honor the three million volunteers across the country and in Hawaii and Alaska (not yet states) who volunteered for six months or more.

The museum, which also houses the West Virginia Heritage Crafts Co-op, is open daily, except for major holidays.

Grammy Museum to open new site in Newark in October

NEWARK, N.J.

The Grammy Museum is about to open its new location in New Jersey.

NJ.com reportsthat the 8,200-square-foot Grammy Museum Experience at the Prudential Center arena in Newark will open Oct. 20.

The museum will include a section dedicated to New Jersey musicians such as Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen. It also will have a fashion section with outfits worn by Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.

The Los Angeles-based museum says the New Jersey location will be the first on the East Coast. Other locations include Cleveland, Miss., and Nashville, Tenn..

The museum will be open six days a week, with tickets ranging between $9 and $12.

Renovations set at Alabama hall of fame

TUSCUMBIA, Ala.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame is getting a facelift.

Officials have wanted to renovate the Tuscumbia museum’s lobby to accommodate larger audiences for concerts, but lacked money for the project.

The TimesDaily of Florence reports that the Shoal Homebuilders’ Association can provide as much as $10,000 for materials and labor for the work.

Bobby Bryan of Bobby Bryan Builders says the renovation will provide more seats for shows at the music hall.

Walt Disney World adds holiday magic
