Mercy Health-Youngstown is offering a program on the importance of early detection of lung cancer, screenings and reducing risk Oct. 4 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

Early detection and treatment can increase lung cancer survival rate, hospital officials said.

Speakers include Mercy Health physicians Drs. Lucas Henn and Thomas Barreiro.

The doors open at 5 p.m. The program and dinner begin at 5:30 p.m. Dessert is compliments of Yellow Brick Place. The registration deadline is Wednesday. For information or to register, call 330-480-3183.

Brownlee Woods

YOUNGSTOWN

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will meet Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. The evening will begin with refreshments and social time at 6 p.m., and the business meeting will start at 6:30.

Pat Lowry, director of Strategic Initiatives for Youngstown City Schools, has been invited to speak.

The meeting is open to the public.

Driving, road safety

POLAND

Beaver Police Department will host its next crime watch public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrot Road.

Holly Reese, traffic safety resource prosecutor with the Traffic Safety Office, and Lt. Carlos Smith from Ohio State Highway Patrol, will be guest speakers. The two will speak on senior driving, safety tips for the roads and keeping cars safe. Local crime statistics will also be discussed.

Instrument donations

AUSTINTOWN

The Fitch High School Orchestra is asking the community for instrument donations for students unable to rent or buy their own. The orchestra is specifically looking for violins, violas, cellos and double basses to grow the orchestra program.

All donations can be dropped off at Fitch.
