Spate of overdoses in Trumbull County continue

Staff report

WARREN

Trumbull County had 15 more drug overdoses overnight Thursday into Friday, continuing the rapid pace of overdoses reported this week, county officials reported late Friday afternoon.

There were 49 overdoses from Sept. 15 through Friday morning, five of them fatal, the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board and county Combined Health District said in a news release.

There have been 964 overdoses in the county since Jan. 1, county officials added.

With this many overdoses, it is putting stress on the ambulance personnel being sent out to revive people, said April Caraway, executive director of the mental health and recovery board.

“First responders should take time out to care for themselves,” Caraway said. Post-traumatic stress and other issues are bound to occur.”

A Warren Fire Department spokesman said the department went on an overdose call this week because there were no ambulances available.

The fire department is among the first responders that keep the opiate-reversal drug naloxone on hand.
