Series of sweeps nets multiple arrests


YOUNGSTOWN

The Community Police Unit and vice squad arrested five women on prostitution charges and two men trying to pick them up Thursday during a series of sweeps in the afternoon and evening.

Also arrested were two people on felony warrants and three people on misdemeanor warrants.

They also found three people wanted on illegal immigration charges that were later picked up by federal authorities, said Detective Sgt. Pat Kelly, head of the CPU.

Among those arrested were Brittney S. Watson, 31, Latoya Griffin, 33, and Heather Maravola, all for soliciting and drug paraphernalia; and Amanda Geiger, 36, soliciting.

Those arrested Thursday were expected to be arraigned today in Youngstown Municipal Court.
