Boy Scout events set Friday through Sunday

All the Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews in the Whispering Pines District of the Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, which serves Mahoning County and the city of Hubbard, are having a hiking activity today to give Scouts the opportunity to complete requirements for rank advancement and some requirements for hiking and backpacking merit badges.
Today, the Scouts left the downtown Youngstown area and hiked into Mill Creek Park past areas such as the location of the Youngstown Ice Co., the Old Log Cabin and sites of the early iron industry in the Mahoning Valley.
During the 12.9-mile hike from Youngstown to Canfield, the Scouts were to have an overnight camp tonight at Morley Field in the James L. Wick Recreation Area.
On Saturday, the Scouts are scheduled to hike through a historic area of early business and industry of the Youngstown area and other historic areas such as the Old Mill Museum, Lake Newport Wetlands and then on to Camp Stambaugh in Canfield.
Once at Camp Stambaugh, they will prepare and eat dinner and close with a campfire program. They will break camp Sunday after a “Scouts Own Service” in the new Woodman Memorial Chapel at Camp Stambaugh.
