YOUNGSTOWN

Information sessions for the Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership, MYCAP, employment skills and training program are scheduled through Oct. 5.

The sessions take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; and at those same times Oct. 2 through Oct. 5.

Candidates interested in the final free training class of 2017 scheduled to begin Oct. 9 must attend only one of the informational sessions. Class space is limited.

The training program helps residents in Mahoning County learn the basic work-related skills that can be used in any position they are seeking.

Housing sales up

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Columbiana County Association of Realtors reported a 7.9 percent increase in August for closed housing sales year-over-year in Mahoning County. Pending sales in the county were up 30.1 percent, and new listings were up 3.7 percent.

The association reported a 9.4 percent increase in closed sales in Columbiana County year-over-year and a 122.5 percent increase in pending sales. New listings in the county increased 13.9 percent.

The Warren Area Board of Realtors reported a 10.2 percent increase in closed housing sales year-over-year in August. Pending sales increased 45.9 percent and new listings in the county were up 2.5 percent.

Home sales up

COLUMBUS

The rate of homes sold across Ohio in August reached a record-breaking level, increasing 4.2 percent from the mark posted during the month a year ago, according to Ohio REALTORS.

August’s average home price of $178,675 reflects a 6.2 percent increase from the $168,303 mark posted during the month last year.

Sales in August reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 150,657, a 4.2 percent increase from the 144,627 level reached during the month a year ago. The rate of sales recorded in August reached a best level for the month, surpassing the month’s previous record set in 2005 of 148,277.
