Easy Street played a concert at the Judge Morley Pavilion on Aug. 16 as a part of Mill Creek’s Live! At the Morley summer concert series.
The band covered a number of hit songs, starting with “Route 66“ by Nat King Cole. The audience got to know the Easy Street Little Big Band led by musical director Jeff Sanders and the groups’ five singers, Maureen Collins, Todd Hancock, James McClellan, Colleen Chance and Natalie Sprouse, over the course of the night. Most of the songs were oldies hits from the 50s and 60s and included both pop and country songs.
The crowd enjoyed the show that Easy Street gave them. A older couple danced during the opener and children ran and danced in front of the stage for the majority of the show. Local artist Leanne Binder received a warm welcome from the audience. When Hancock and the band started Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,“ the crowd happily clapped along. The group also played songs like “Love Me Tender“ and “Heartbreak Hotel“ to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.
The Little Rascals came on stage and sang about halfway into the show. The Little Rascals are a group of children that Collins works with at the Adler Arts Academy Studios. These workshops run throughout the summer and end with performance at the Live! At the Morley concert. A single boy sang the first song, “Everywhere Man“ by Johnny Cash. The other children joined him on the chorus. The Little Rascals also sang “Fight Song“ by Rachel Platten and “Walking on Sunshine“ by Katrina and the Waves.
Easy Street Productions has played the final concert of Mill Creek’s Live! At the Morley every year since the event started in 1994.
Collins and Hancock founded Easy Street Productions in 1988 and have put on Broadway shows such as “Annie“ in Edward W. Powers Auditorium. They will be putting on “Peter and the Starcatcher“ on Nov. 10-12 at DeYor’s Ford Family Recital Hall.
Live! At the Morley runs throughout summer every year.
