Car show benefits Valley children

The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club hosted its 39th annual Cars in the Park Car Show and Flea Market in Boardman Park on Aug. 6.
More than 300 cars were available for the large crowd to view and get an up close look.
“We have around 300 cars from all over the state and from out-of-state from such states as Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia,” said Dave Bayowski, a director of Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club and member in charge of registration.
Money raised from the car show is used to help several families throughout the year with children with medical conditions and hospice.
“We help several families throughout the year. A portion of the money raised, plus donations, benefits a young person with financial help from medical costs. This year’s beneficiary is Brooklyn Hostetter, a 6-year-old from New Waterford diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome two days after her birth. Brooklyn faces several heart surgeries, lifetime medications and many other treatments. We are grateful we can help her family with her medical costs with money we raise today,” Bayowski said.
Bayowski said the organization has donated thousands of dollars throughout the last 39 years.
“We expect to raise over $3,000 from today’s show. We have donated $70,000 to other causes over the years and about $50,000 to hospice, which we just recently included in our donations, Bayowski said.
The car show is a judged event, with about 20-25 members of the club serving as judges. First and second places are awarded in 23 classes, along with a Participant’s Choice Award, a President’s Choice Award and two different Best of Show trophies.
The show has several major sponsors, including Snyder’s Antique Auto Parts, Becker Funeral Homes, Udderly Smooth, Flynn Auto Group, Anthony J. Billett Landscape, Valley Insurance Group and WKBN and Fox Youngstown.
The event also offered door prizes, food, a 50/50 drawing, a Chinese auction and children’s activities.
“We’d like to thank everyone for bringing their cars our and supporting the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club,” Bayowski said.
