POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Sept. 15

Arrest: A traffic stop near Taylor Avenue resulted in the arrest of Brian K. Oslavic, 19, of Forsythe Avenue, Girard, who was charged with failure to comply with police when, they alleged, he had failed several times to pull over. Oslavic also was cited on a charge of having a partially smoked suspected marijuana cigarette.

Harassment: An Ohio Avenue woman said a woman has made unwanted and threatening calls to her.

Harassment: Police charged Greg Powell, 35, of Church Hill Road, Girard, with telephone harassment and disorderly conduct after an employee with Hiland Dairy, Bakery & Deli, 722 N. Highland Ave., reported having received about 35 such calls that contained vulgar language. Also, an intoxicated Powell was outdoors trying to start fights with his neighbors, a report stated.

Misuse of a credit card: An Abbey Street woman discovered three unauthorized charges to her credit/debit card that had been stolen from her vehicle.

Theft: The owner of a U.S. Route 422 business reported a safe that contained two checks and an undisclosed sum of money was missing.

Criminal mischief: The landlord and a tenant of a Washington Avenue residence alleged a woman had pried open and did $500 in damage to a garage door.

Sept. 16

Domestic violence: Kenneth Cochrane of Trumbull Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after a family member alleged that during an argument with her in a vehicle, Cochrane, 40, had grabbed then tossed her to the ground, which left injuries to the accuser’s arms and legs.

Criminal mischief: A Forsythe Avenue man noticed several segments of fencing in his yard were broken.

Criminal mischief: Two property-line stakes were removed from a yard in the 800 block of North Ward Avenue.

Harassment: A West Liberty Street man said his former girlfriend has sent him unsolicited messages via Facebook.

Possible drug overdose: Officers responded to a possible overdose at a Route 422 restaurant, where Girard firefighters reportedly were attempting to revive a driver who was not breathing in his car. Police reportedly found a bindle in a folded piece of paper that contained what appeared to be heroin before the man was given several doses of Narcan to block or reverse the effects of opioids and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Domestic violence: Calvin Perry, 46, of Forsythe Avenue, Girard, along with a 15-year-old Girard boy, was charged after a family member alleged an intoxicated Perry had struck him with a metal pole, then chased him with it. Also, the teen had threatened to burn down the home, a report said.

Sept. 17

Arrest: After pulling him over on North State Street, police took into custody David C. Altman, 38, of Taylor Avenue, Girard. He was wanted on a warrant.

Possible drugs: After stopping a vehicle near Gordon Street, authorities reportedly found a vial of a liquid substance likely to be some type of drug.

Theft: A Forsythe Avenue man alleged another man had stolen $65 from him.

Sept. 18

Damage: A North Ward Avenue man reported a dump truck had damaged the foundation to his garage.

LIBERTY

Sept. 14

Harassment: A Goldie Road man alleged a worker for a Belmont Avenue discount store continues to harass him regarding a $20 bet between them earlier this summer.

Burglary: Took place at an apartment in the 10 block of Holly Drive, from which numerous tools, two iPhones, TV equipment and a home-theater system were among items stolen. The estimated loss was $3,200.

Possible drugs: Employees with a Belmont Avenue motel told authorities that after a San Diego man had checked out, he left a large bag containing green shredded material that resembled marijuana.

Robbery: While responding to a fight at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police charged a 16-year-old Youngstown girl with robbery, aggravated menacing, resisting arrest and two counts of assault when two workers alleged that after failing to self-scan merchandise and flying into a rage, the teen tossed and struck them with a steel sign and pushed a shopping cart into the victims as they tried to prevent her from leaving. In addition, Kevin J. Mangham, 19, of Kensington Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with theft by deception after being accused of ringing up a $198 item with a phony code for $2.

Drugs: Brandon C. McDowell, 28, faced a felony drug-possession charge after having been pulled over near Belmont Avenue. McDowell, of Stocker Avenue, Youngstown, had a package containing three pills determined to be Percocet, a controlled substance commonly used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Also found in his pocket was a bag that contained 30 additional similar pills, a report showed.

Sept. 15

Arrest: Police responded to a report of an unconscious male at a Belmont Avenue gas station, where they charged Reginaldo Vicente, 29, of Clinton, Ark., with operating a vehicle impaired. Vicente’s blood-alcohol count was 0.227, which is nearly three times Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report said.

Harassment: A Murray Hill Avenue woman reported a caller who claimed to represent the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department said she failed to appear for jury duty and that a deputy could be sent to arrest her.

Arrests: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail picked up Roy L. Bratton, 34, of Stoneybrook Drive, Hubbard, and Krista L. Capezzuto, 38, of Virginia Trail, Liberty. Both were wanted on outstanding warrants.

Sept. 16

Theft/criminal damaging: Someone damaged a cabinet under a counter at Quality Inn, 4055 Belmont Ave., and removed an undisclosed sum of money.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in the arrests of Samantha A. Sieg, 25, of West 10th Street, Youngstown, on two counts of drug abuse and one of possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as Jenalyn Brenner, 37, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, on charges of drug abuse and obstructing official business after authorities alleged having found knotted plastic bags in a pill bottle that contained Suboxone, a controlled substance often used to treat pain, and suspected marijuana. Brenner lied about her identity to avoid being arrested on felony warrants; also, Sieg was wanted on a felony warrant from Lorain County, a report stated.

Sept. 17

Arrest: Tommy J. Lee, 29, of Dearborn Street, Youngstown, faced a charge of failing to comply with police after authorities reportedly had tried to stop a motorcycle. The driver led officers on a chase along Belmont Avenue that reached more than 100 mph before being apprehended at his residence, a report showed.

Arrest: While answering a disturbance call at a Belmont Avenue restaurant, police charged Satin L. Garvey of Dearborn Street, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired. Garvey, 27, registered a 0.143 blood-alcohol content, a report stated.

Theft: A woman in her mid- to late 20s reportedly stole a 24-ounce cup of coffee and two pepperoni rolls from a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave.

HUBBARD

Sept. 11

Theft: A man reported his elderly mother, of Elmwood Drive, paid two men $550 to seal her driveway and demanded $800 after having agreed to do the work for $200.

Sept. 13

Arrest: While dealing with a possible medical emergency in the 800 block of West Liberty Street, officers charged Stephen R. Adams Jr., 44, with operating a vehicle impaired and driving under suspension. Adams, of Westchester Avenue, Youngstown, registered a 0.247 blood-alcohol content, a report showed.

Sept. 14

Fraud: A Lauretta Lane man told police he received a $3,980 check with the name of a Macon, Ga., business on it after having responded to an email he believed pertained to applying for a part-time job. Soon after, the accuser got a text message instructing him to deposit the check and wait for funds to be available before learning the check was fraudulent, a report said.
