Poland businessman pleads in sales-tax case

A Poland businessman pleaded guilty Wednesday to failing to pay more than $40,000 in sales tax.

Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas court will sentence Kenneth Law at 9 a.m. Nov. 28.

Law, 54, of Diana Drive, faced two counts of tampering with records, one count of theft, six counts of failure to remit sales tax and two counts of engaging in business with a suspended vendor’s license.

Law, doing business as Performa Advanced Print Solutions, collected but did not submit sales tax from 2011 to 2016.

Law’s business also operated from March 2015 to the end of 2016 without a vendor’s license.

County prosecutors dropped the tampering and theft charges in exchange for a plea on the other eight counts.

While Law could face 18 months in prison and $5,000 in fines on each count, prosecutors are recommending probation and $41,409.83 in restitution paid to the Ohio Department of Taxation.
