Mahoning County health board offering flu-shot clinics

The Mahoning County District Board of Health is offering flu shots at several locations throughout the county.

No appointment is necessary. Most private insurances are accepted.

Participants must bring insurance cards, driver’s license, Medicaid and Medicare cards so the cost of the vaccine can be billed. Available flu vaccines and their costs without proof of insurance are: Ages 6 months and up, quadrivalent (4 flu virus strains), $40; 65 and older, high-dose trivalent (3 flu virus strains), $55. Nasal spray influenza vaccine is not available.

Erica Horner, director of nursing and community health, said the U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Control recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every season including people at high risk of developing flu-related complications; children 6 months to 2 years; adults 65 and older; pregnant women and women up to two weeks postpartum; residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities; and people with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, diabetes and weakened immune systems due to cancer, HIV or AIDS.

Sept. 27, 2 to 7 p.m., Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., Canfield.

Sept. 28, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Beaver Township Administration Building, 11999 South Ave. Ext. North Lima.

Oct. 2, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mahoning County District Board of Health, 50 Westchester Drive, Austintown.

Oct. 4, noon to 2 p.m., Goshen Township Administration Building, 14003 W. South Range Road, Salem.

Oct. 11, 11:30a.m. to 3 p.m., Boardman Township Building, 8299 Market St., Boardman.

Oct. 13, noon to 6 p.m., Poland Township Administration Building, 3339 Dobbins Road, Poland.

Oct. 18, 1 to 5 p.m., Struthers Mauthe Park, 156 Smithfield St., Struthers.

Oct. 19, 9 to 11:30 a.m., Berlin Township Building, Weidenmier House, 15801 Akron-Canfield Road (U.S. Route 224), Berlin Center.

Oct. 19, noon to 2 p.m., Lake Milton Fire Station, 15980 Milton Ave., Lake Milton.

Oct. 27, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Green Township Administration Building, 12200 Lisbon Road.
