Shots fired at home

Township police are investigating a report someone fired a gun at a West Boulevard house, according to a police report.

According to the report, officers responded to the house in the 5500 block of West Boulevard about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday after the homeowner called 911 to report someone had fired shots at him and his house. No one was injured.

The man told police a vehicle he didn’t recognize showed up at the house, and when he went outside to check it out, a front-seat passenger fired two shots at him.

Suspect in murder

YOUNGSTOWN

A Dearborn Avenue man in the Mahoning County jail since Sept. 12 on a gun charge was charged Tuesday by Columbus police with an Aug. 18 homicide there.

Shaiquon Sharpe, 20, faces a murder charge for the death of a 20-year-old man who was shot to death.

Sharpe has been in the jail since Sept. 12, when he was arrested about 1:40 a.m. at Market Street and Princeton Avenue on the South Side after a traffic stop and police found a handgun in the glove compartment of the car he was driving.

Boil-alerts lifted

NORTH JACKSON

The boil-water alert issued Tuesday was lifted Wednesday for customers in the Mahoning County Metro Water Sewer District. A waterline break affected customers on Tolland, Jersey, Delaware, Kenmore, Normady, Friedham, Rosemont, Avalon and Lynfield streets and Red Dog Lane. The county’s Sanitary Engineering Department said all microbiological drinking water samples were examined and found to be not contaminated. Therefore, the boil-water alerts for the affected areas were lifted.

Kitchen fire put out

Township fire crews Wednesday were able to quickly extinguish a kitchen fire at a 4111 Glenwood Ave. apartment. Crews responded about noon to the blaze. At first, the call went to Youngstown 911, but after city firefighters responded and found no fire, they alerted Boardman. A damage estimate was not available. There were no injuries.

Rape charges filed

NILES

Joshua A. Worthy, 26, of Mason Street, was indicted Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on one count of rape that could carry a life prison sentence if convicted. He is in the county jail in lieu of $500,000 bond after a hearing in Niles Municipal Court. Niles police began to investigate July 27 when a woman reported the rape of a 5-year-old boy. Worthy, who police said has intellectual challenges, admitted to the offense when interviewed by police.

Poland trustees

POLAND

The township trustees will have a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. today at the government center, 3339 Dobbins Road. Trustees will adjourn to an executive session for a pre-disciplinary hearing for a township road employee. Trustees also will discuss an Ohio Department of Transportation grant for sidewalks.
