Free prostate screenings

WARREN

As part of Prostate Awareness Month, Mercy Health Youngstown is offering free prostate screenings to men over 40 who are uninsured or under insured from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. SW, Warren.

Mercy Health lab technicians will perform prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood draws, and physicians from NEO Urology will be available for digital prostate exams. Blood pressure and foot and ankle screenings are also available.

Awareness heart walk

YOUNGSTOWN

More than 2,000 Tri-County area residents are expected to raise awareness about and more than $280,000 for the American Heart Association on Sept. 30 by participating in the annual Tri-County Healthy For Good/¢ Heart Walk.

The 1.5-mile walk at the WATTS at Youngstown State University features entertainment and activities, including healthy cooking demonstrations, Hands-Only CPR training, free health screenings and exercise sessions, a Kids Zone with games, and Thomas John of 106.1 FM and iHeartRadio as emcee.

The Heart Walk begins with registration and the festival area opening at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Individuals, teams and companies can sign up in advance for the non-competitive, 1.5-mile walk by visiting www.heart.org/mahoningvalleywalk.

Ideal weight workshop

A 90-day “Achieve Your Ideal Weight for Life Workshop” will be offered by Dr. Ted Suzelis, ND, beginning from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center, 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D3, Southbridge West Complex.

The workshop offers a plan to teach participants how to eat healthy, lose weight and create a lifelong strategy for optimal health. Suzelis’ strategy for weight loss doesn’t include diet pills, shakes, special pre-packaged foods or starvation diets. Recipients will receive support and accountability, meal planning and portion-control strategies.

Benefit car, truck and bike show planned

Mary’s Pink Ribbon Racers Relay for Life Team is having a benefit Car, Truck and Bike Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Austintown Eagles, 1655 S. Raccoon Road cross from Wedgewood Pizza. The rain date is Sunday. The entry fee is $3 per vehicle. Admittance for spectators is free. Goody bags are offered for the first 50 registrants, and there are door prizes, raffles, 50/50, children’s activities, food and drinks, all-day D.J., Ghostbusters and Back-to-the-Future cars.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
