Sculptor lecture, workshop at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Sculptor Linda Cordell will present a workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in Room 1062 of Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University and a lecture at 5:10 p.m. in the auditorium of the adjacent McDonough Museum of Art. Both events are free and open to the public.

Cordell makes work that reinterprets the figurine, enabling animals to break the chains of cuteness and noble savagery. For information, call 330-941-2307.

Moscow Ballet to have auditions

BOARDMAN

Youngstown ballet students age 6 to 18 are invited to audition Oct. 7 at 10:30 a.m. for Moscow Ballet soloist and audition director Alisa Bolotnikova at The Stage Door Academy of the Arts, 721 Boardman-Poland Road. The audition is open to students from dance studios across the city with a minimum one year of ballet training.

Ballerina Alisa Bolotnikova will lead auditions and rehearse the young dancers in their assigned roles. Successful auditionees will perform side-by-side with the Moscow Ballet company in “The Great Russian Nutcracker” at Powers Auditorium at 3 p.m. Nov. 25.

Bolotnikova also will lead the young dancers at dress rehearsal with the Russian company the day of the performance. Auditions are free, but there may be a casting fee. Sign up to audition at nutcracker.com/auditions.

Lazy Daisy Festival

The 16th annual Lazy Daisy music festival, featuring the JiMiller Band performing music of the Grateful Dead, the Ice Cream Truckers, the Rusty Haywackers and many more, will take place Oct. 6-8 at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park.
