Man charged after A’town bar shooting

AUSTINTOWN

Richard Bates, 69, is in Mahoning County jail charged with felonious assault and attempted aggravated murder after shooting at his girlfriend at Chipper’s Sports Bar and Grille, Austintown police report.

Bates was arrested early Sunday morning, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The manager at Chipper’s said Bates missed his girlfriend’s head by inches and missed the bartender by about 3 feet.

Man crashes into garage in Warren

WARREN

A driver whom a witness believed to have overdosed on a drug and appeared to not be breathing crashed though a garage and hit a neighbor’s house about 4:10 a.m. Sunday, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center

The crash occurred in the 1700 block of Parkman Road N.W. near the intersections of Denison Drive N.W. and Clemmens Avenue N.W.

According to witnesses, a female passenger in the vehicle ran from the scene. The condition of the driver was not available Sunday night from the 911 Center or Warren City police.

The Garden District Neighborhood Association will have its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Hall of St. John Lutheran Church, 1420 Mahoning Ave. President Jerry O’Hara will officiate.

Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, will give an update of activities on the West Side and the city of Youngstown. Community Police Officer Melvin Johnson also will be in attendance.

Scrap-tire collection

The township will host a scrap-tire collection for township residents only from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. No material from commercial businesses will be accepted. The maximum is eight tires per resident. Only tires off the rims will be taken.
