South Dakota 45, North Dakota 7

VERMILLION

Chris Streveler threw for 290 yards, including a touchdown, and ran in two more scores to lead South Dakota past North Dakota. Kai Henry also ran in two touchdowns and Ben Klett had a TD run late in the game. His first touchdown came late in the first quarter. He later connected with Shamar Jackson with 10 seconds left in the opening half on a touchdown pass and then got his third TD on a quarterback draw. North Dakota (1-2) was held scoreless until the fourth quarter when Travis Toivonen hauled in a touchdown throw from Keaton Studsrud.

Illinois State 44, Eastern Illinois 13

CHARLESTON, ILL.

James Robinson rushed for 89 yards with a pair of touchdowns and Illinois State took care of longtime in-state rival Eastern Illinois. Robinson had a 22-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 1-yard plunge in the second as the Redbirds (2-0) built a 27-6 lead at intermission. Eastern Illinois (1-2) used a 14-play, 80-yard drive, culminated in Scotty Gilkey Jr.’s touchdown run, to trim its deficit to 27-13. ISU responded with Jake Kolbe’s 80-yard touchdown pass to Robert Gillum to re-establish a three-touchdown advantage.

Missouri State 28, Murray State 21

SPRINGFIELD, MO.

Calan Crowder rushed for 104 yards on 15 carries and his touchdown with 1:53 to play lifted Missouri State past Murray State. Crowder ran it in from 2-yards out at the end of a 6-play, 44-yard drive led by Peyton Huslig. The Racers took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. After intermission, Huslig led a 7-play, 75-yard drive that ended when he connected with a 10-yard scoring pass to Nick Masoner. Huslig later led an 80-yard scoring drive in six plays that concluded with his scoring run to put Missouri State (1-2) up 21-10. Corey Newble threw a touchdown pass to Jordon Gandy and Newble ran it in for the 2-point conversion.

Liberty 42, Indiana State 41

LYNCHBURG, VA.

Corbin Jackson leaped just high enough to get his right hand up to block a 23-yard field goal attempt as time expired to secure Liberty’s win over Indiana State. It appeared Liberty (3-0) had won when Indiana State’s Cade Sparks threw incomplete on fourth down with 1:04 left in the game, but Liberty had called time out and the Sycamores got another chance from Liberty’s 48. Sparks responded with three straight completions, setting up Jerry Nunez to boot the game winner. Jackson got the block. Liberty kicker Alex Probert had a 48-yard field goal attempt hit the crossbar, opening the door for the Sycamores (0-3).

South Dakota State 51, Drake 10

BROOKINGS, S.D.

Taryn Christion passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and South Dakota State continued to pile up the points with a victory over Drake. Christion threw touchdown passes to Dallas Goedert and Jake Wieneke and running 10 yards for another score during a first half in which the Jackrabbits (3-0) scored on their first five possessions then tacked on Cade Johnson’s 95-yard kickoff return for a 41-3 lead. The lone touchdown for the Bulldogs (1-2) came on Grant Kraemer’s 62-yard touchdown throw to Steven Doran.

Southern Illinois 35, Southeast Missouri 17

CAPE GIRARDEAU

Sam Straub threw for four touchdowns and Southern Illinois ended a 12-game losing streak on the road with a win over Southeast Missouri. Three touchdown passes came in the first half, two to Darrell James. James’ score with 57 seconds left in the half made it 28-10. Straub connected with Jacob Varble for a score late in the third quarter to make it 35-10. The Southern Illinois defense forced four turnovers.
