Marshall 21, Kent State 0

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.

Chase Litton threw for one touchdown and ran in another to lead Marshall to a win over Kent State. Tyler King added a 29-yard touchdown and had 14 carries for 101 yards for Marshall (2-1). Litton finished 23 of 43 for 223 yards passing and one interception. After a scoreless first quarter, Marshall held Kent State (1-2) to three-and-out late in the second and drove 71 yards in 13 plays as Marcel Williams snagged a 5-yard throw from Litton for a touchdown with six seconds left in the opening half. Midway through the fourth quarter, Litton ran in the game’s next score and after taking over on downs at their own 36, the Thundering Herd quickly drove back into Kent State territory and got the touchdown from King.

Iowa State 41, Akron 14

AKRON

Jacob Park passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns, including a 43-yarder to Marchie Murdock, as Iowa State pulled away in the second half for a victory over Akron. Junior quarterback Park completed 24 of 33 throws and a scored on a 14-yard run for the Cyclones (2-1). David Montgomery rushed for 127 yards and a score and senior Allen Lazard caught his third TD pass of the year. The Cyclones jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but only took a 20-14 advantage into the break after Zips senior Thomas Woodson tossed a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. Wide receiver Kwadarrius Smith had 76 yards and a touchdown on three catches for Akron (1-2).

Ohio 42, Kansas 30

ATHENS

Nathan Rourke threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns as Ohio defeated Kansas. Rourke earned his first start against the Jayhawks after shining in the first two games of the season. Quinton Maxwell entered the game in the middle of the second quarter, and he completed 4 of 5 passes, including a 9-yard score to Mangen. The Jayhawks couldn’t contain Rourke. Trailing 39-14 after three quarters, Kansas’ Peyton Bender passed 1 yard to Jeremiah Booker early the fourth and Gabriel Rui added a 34-yard field goal with 5:35 remaining to cut the deficit to 39-24. But Louie Zervos padded the lead with a 46-yard field goal before Kansas scored a touchdown on the game’s final play.

Ball State 28, Tennessee Tech 13

MUNCIE, IND.

Riley Neal threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns to help lead Ball State to a win over Tennessee Tech. James Gilbert rushed for 92 yards on 11 carries and Justin Hall pulled in seven passes for 82 yards and a score for the Cardinals (2-1). Neal threw for 180 yards on 17-of-23 passing and 3 TDs in first half. His final pass of the half was a 17-yard scoring strike to Gilbert with nine seconds left. Gilbert rushed eight times for 75 yards in first half. Ball State was nursing a 21-13 lead with 2:21 left in the third quarter when Malik Dunner broke down the sideline for a 66-yard touchdown run to give the Cardinals a 28-13 lead. Andre Sale threw for 239 yards to lead Tech (0-3).

Syracuse 41, Central Michigan 17

SYRACUSE, N.Y.

Eric Dungey rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown and threw for another, tailback Dontae Strickland scored twice, and Syracuse beat Central Michigan. With the score tied late in the second quarter, Dungey showed he had put that play far in the rearview mirror. He rolled away from the rush of Mitch Stanitzek and hit Sean Riley for a 44-yard gain. Strickland scored on the next play from the 9.

Buffalo 33, Colgate 10

BUFFALO

Tyree Jackson threw for one touchdown and ran in another to lead Buffalo in a win over Colgate. Emmanuel Reed rushed for a career-high 120 yards on 22 carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run, and Johnathan Hawkins punched in a TD from the 1 as Buffalo (1-2) evened its series with the Raiders at 8-8. The Bulls scored on each of their first half possessions to take a 30-3 lead into the break and then protected its advantage the rest of the way, capping the game with a 21-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter by Adam Mitcheson. Jackson opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown after marching 75 yards in 11 plays and connected with Anthony Johnson less than two minutes later on a 14-yard TD throw. Colgate (1-2) got a 22-yard field goal from Chris Puzzi in the first quarter. Malik Twyman punched in a touchdown from the 5 late in the third quarter.
