Planetarium shows will take guests into space

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.
The Westminster College Planetarium season opens Sept. 30 with “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” (age 3 to 6) at 5:30 p.m.
Guests of all ages can explore the night sky with Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, as they go on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the sun and the moon.
Later that evening, “Dawn of the Space Age” shows at 7 p.m.
Viewers will be immersed in the most accurate, historic reconstruction of man’s first steps into space. From the launch of the first satellite to the lunar landings and privately operated space flights, the film shows the passion and perseverance of those who took part. It’s recommended for all ages.
Outdoor stargazing will follow “Dawn of the Space Age.”
Details of upcoming shows and ticket reservations are available online at westminster.edu/planetarium or by calling 724-946-7827. Reservations are required because seating is limited. All shows are free, open to the public and last approximately an hour.
The rest of the season includes showings of “Black Holes” and “Ooky Spooky” on Oct. 28; and “Let it Snow: Holiday Music Magic” and “Mystery of the Christmas Star” on Dec. 2. Details are available online.
The planetarium is located in room 116 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center, at the intersection of Maple Street and Westminster Drive (next to the traffic circle), on the campus in New Wilmington. Parking is available along Westminster Drive and in the lot on Maple Street.
