The city, with the cooperation of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday for the renovation of a former bank into a professional office building in Farrell.

David Miklos, owner and operator of Superior Contracting, purchased and renovated the building. The cost of purchase and renovation was partially funded with financing from Farrell’s Revolving Loan Fund.

Steel imports

WASHINGTON

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Cleveland, and Rob Portman, a Republican from the Cincinnati area, on Friday demanded action on the Trump administration’s investigation into steel imports and their impact on national security.

In April, the Commerce Department launched an investigation into the impact of certain steel imports on national security, known as a 232 investigation. It has been months since then, and the senators say the delay has allowed foreign competitors to dump steel into the U.S. before the results of the investigation take effect. In a letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the senators urged the administration to make its determination soon.

Macy’s trims holiday hires

NEW YORK

Macy’s is increasing the number of temporary workers it’s hiring for distribution and warehouses for the holiday season as it chases fast growing e-commerce sales. But overall holiday hiring will fall nearly 4 percent.

Macy’s says it will be hiring 18,000 workers to fulfill online orders and other tasks at warehouses devoted to e-commerce operations. That’s an increase of 3,000 from a year ago. But overall, Macy’s temporary hiring is expected at 80,000, down from 83,000 a year ago.

The overall decline contrasts with rival Target Corp., which announced earlier this week that it was hiring 100,000 people to work at its stores, an increase of 40 percent from a year ago.
