YOUNGSTOWN

The co-owner of Extreme Machines of East Dennick Avenue reported Friday that his landlord locked him out of the building and had 20 machines valued at $500,000 removed from the business. The co-owner said he learned recently that a new landlord bought half of the building and he didn’t have time to remove his property. The new landlord denied the co-owner admittance to the building, saying the roof was unsafe. The landlord admitted to taking the co-owner’s equipment, the co-owner told police.

Kids’ eye exams

YOUNGSTOWN

Beginning Monday, Youngstown City Schools, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and Youngstown City Health Department, in partnership with several other businesses and organizations, will provide free vision screenings to kindergarten through seventh-graders. The goal is to provide follow-up eye exams for students who fail the screenings and to secure glasses for those students who need them.

Election dinner

BOARDMAN

Boardman Civic Association’s annual Candidates and Issues Dinner is Monday at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6.

Candidates in the November general election and representatives of ballot issues will present information. The public is invited to join BCA members for dinner. For nonmembers, the cost is $15.

The speakers’ session is free and begins immediately after the dinner. Secure a reservation by sending an email to MHarris1421@yahoo.com. Attendees can pay at the door by cash, check or credit card.

Road restrictions

In Mahoning County From Monday through Friday, U.S. Route 224 will close between Ellsworth and Bailey roads in Ellsworth Township for a culvert replacement. The Route 224 ramps to state Route 11 will be closed for resurfacing from 7 p.m. Friday to next Saturday. In both cases, detours will be posted.

In Mahoning and Trumbull counties, the Interstate 80 westbound ramp to U.S. Route 422 is closed till 1 p.m. today. The detour is I-80 westbound to Salt Springs Road to I-80 eastbound.

On Monday, in Warren, Route 422 just west of Logan Street will be reduced to one lane in each director for guardrail repairs and replacement through early October.

Trumbull roadwork

MESOPOTAMIA

The Trumbull County Engineer’s office said Parkman Mesopotamia Road between Parks West Road and State Route 87, will be closed from Wednesday through Friday for a cross pipe-replacement project. The recommended detour route is east on Parks West, north on Girdle Road and west on Route 87.

Benefit breakfast

EAST LIVERPOOL

Friends of Beaver Creek State Park will be hosting the monthly Pancake and Sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday in the pavilion of the Sam Saffer Barn at Pioneer Village. Drinks will be available, including coffee, tea and orange juice.

The breakfast is by donation, with all proceeds going to the upkeep of the village buildings. Also, a basket auction will raise funds for the relocation of an 1860s log house that has been donated to Pioneer Village. Reconstruction of the house is to begin next spring.
