YOUNGSTOWN

Officers from the vice squad and Community Police Unit stopped a car at 427 Emerson Ave. that was pulling out of the drive as officers arrived to search the home about 5:35 p.m. Officers asked the driver, Victor Green, 45, of Glenmont Avenue, and the passenger, Roscoe Burkes, 48, of New Road, to get out of the car.

When Green was searched, officers found heroin, fentanyl, six pills and $10,781 cash.

In the car where Burkes was sitting, police found two bottles of pills. An additional $340 was found in the center console of the car, and an additional $571 was found in the house along with marijuana and two scales.

Burkes was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs while Green faces charges of possession of heroin and possession of drugs. Willie Caldwell, who lists the home as his address, was cited on misdemeanor drug charges and given a court date.

Police Chief Robin Lees said oftentimes it is sheer luck when officers serve a warrant when they find a large amount of drugs or cash when they arrive.

Police also served a second search warrant Wednesday. Reports said they found a .22-caliber handgun and a blender with heroin residue while serving a search warrant just after 7 p.m. and investigating drug activity at a 1601 Third St. home.

Cited for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia was Pamela Johnson, 30, who lists the West Side home as her address.

Animal Charity also was called to take a dog that was housed in deplorable conditions, reports said.

Reports said vice squad officers Wednesday afternoon found a bag of fentanyl on a man they pulled over for making an improper turn about 1:25 p.m. at North Center Street and Wilson Avenue on the East Side.

The driver, Stacey Gray, 25, of Jefferson Street, appeared nervous when police went to question him, and he was asked out of the car when officers found out he has a suspended license, reports said.

When Gray got out of the car, two pieces of paper that had a brown powder inside fell out of his pants, reports said. Tests later determined the powder was fentanyl.

Gray was booked into the Mahoning County jail on a charge of possession of drugs.
