St. Elizabeth - Boardman hosted a ribbon cutting for its new Sr. Margaret Mary Siegfried H.M. Ambulatory Pharmacy on Sept. 8.

The event marked the beginning of the hospital’s Meds to Beds program, which will allow patients to receive their medications themselves prior to leaving the hospital. The program will also give the community access to medications.

“We hope for fewer readmissions,“ said Genie Aubel, president of St. Elizabeth hospital, during her speech prior to cutting the ribbon. She called the pharmacy’s availability a “tremendous convenience“ for patients and staff.

Paul S. Homick, Jr., president of the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley and interim vice president of mission integration for Mercy Health, took the podium following her. He explained the career of Sr. Margaret Mary Siegfried H.M., the namesake of the pharmacy, and spoke highly of her dedication to medical field at the St. Joseph hospital in Warren and the Youngstown St. Elizabeth branch.

Father George Gage of St. Mary Romanian Catholic Church blessed the pharmacy and led a prayer after Homick Jr. He presented Siegfried with a gift between prayers. Siegfried then gave her own speech about her work.

Siegfried, Aubel and Homick cut the ribbon to the Sr. Margaret Mary Siegfried H.M. Ambulatory Pharmacy. The pharmacy, located in the main hospital lobby near the front desk, officially opens to the public in October and will be operational from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Aubel addressed the audience once again following the ribbon ceremony. She asked the public and staff to stay for a reception where they could walk through and view the new pharmacy.
