Kravitz celebration

Mission donation

The employees of GBS Computer Solutions recently presented a gift of $21,000 to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. The funds were raised as part of their Year of Giving Initiative. On Aug. 7, the GBS YOGI committee hosted the first charity golf tournament at Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield.

MVYP mixer

The Mahoning Valley Young Professionals will have its September mixer from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Boardman Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road.

The entrance fee is $5 for all or free if you bring diapers to donate to Making Kids Count. The event will feature networking, appetizers and a cash bar.

PIA expansion

VIENNA

Next Wednesday, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics will show off its expansion at its Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport campus.

In 2016, PIA invested $1.3 million in its purchase of the site and construction of a new two-story teaching facility at its Hangar 3 site. This new facility includes electrical and welding classrooms, an aeronautics lab, a conference facility, administrative offices and a student resource center with a computer lab.

Fighting hunger

September is Hunger Action Month, and Citizens Bank is joining the movement by taking action on Hunger Action Day on Thursday.

Dressed in orange, the symbolic color of hunger, Citizens Bank will announce its $10,000 gift to fund the mobile-pantry program in Columbiana County and will have team members passing out boxes of food at the distribution from 10 a.m. to noon. The mobile-pantry distribution is at the Fellowship of the Beloved, 13696 Bethesda Road, Hanoverton.

Sheetz has launched its made-to-order Kidz Mealz. Adding to Sheetz’s menu options, 15 different children’s meals will be offered, all customizable, using Sheetz’s touch-screen technology at participating stations.

Gains for banks and retailers take stocks to record highs

NEW YORK

U.S. stocks rose to record highs Tuesday as banks kept rising and retailers climbed after some encouraging job data. It was the second-straight day for big gains in bank stocks as bond yields pushed higher, which allows banks to charge higher rates on loans. Retailers rose after the Labor Department said job openings and hiring both grew in July and more people quit their jobs to take new ones. That left investors hopeful people will shop and spend more.
