Garden Clubs compete at 171st Canfield Fair

CANFIELD

Six garden clubs decorated doors in the Floral Building as part of the 2017 Flower Show at the Canfield Fair. The winner was decided by popular vote taken Aug. 30 through closing Sept. 3.

This year, 1,936 votes were cast with the following results:

Garden Club winner was Door 2, decorated by the Damascus Garden Club.

Other participating clubs were Hitchcock Woods Garden Club, St. Michael’s Garden Guild, Flower Wagon Garden Club, Holborn Herb Growers Guild and Sunflower Garden Club.

Individuals also participated in the flower show also. No pre-registration was required. Gardeners brought their entries to the fair Aug. 29, and also Sept. 2 during the fair.

This year, there were 44 new people who tried their hand at competing. On Aug. 29, 106 participants brought in 1,089 entries. Sept. 2 featured 72 participants with 997 entries.

Dianna Mullins, “Backyard Chickens” design

Marie Belfast, “Ring of Fire” rose

Edith Clark, “Recycling” design

David Habeger, dahlia “Bear Creek Sunrise”

To participate in 2018, interested people should pick up a schedule in the Fair office during the summer.
