Delphi layoffs coming

Twenty-six workers will be laid off at Delphi Plant 11 on Sept. 18 to reduce costs, a union official says.

The IUE-CWA Local 717, which represents 660 workers at three local Delphi plants, was informed last week the layoffs were coming.

The company told the union there were “too many people and not enough work,” said Ed Salus, IUE-CWA Local 717 president. “Any time there’s money to be saved, our people take the brunt of it.”

The layoffs will be done by seniority.

Delphi Plant 11 is Delphi’s metal stamp plant located on North River Road. Delphi Plant 10, also located on North River Road, is the wiring plant. Delphi Plant 47 in Vienna is the plastic injection molding plant.
