Speed limit may be dropping on North River Road in Howland

WARREN
The speed limit on a section of North River Road east of North Road soon may be dropping by 10 mph.
The section is now 55 mph, but it recently received sidewalks and is considered a growth area of Howland Township.
The Trumbull County Engineer’s Office has conducted a speed study to determine whether the 55 mph is appropriate. It looked at factors such as average daily traffic flow, crashes, width of the road, and number of homes and businesses.
The section involved is from near the state Route 5/82 overpass east to state Route 46, said Wayne Hickman, engineer technician for the engineer’s office.
The office is recommending a new speed limit of 45 mph for that section.
The next step, approved Wednesday by the county commissioners, is for the engineer’s office to submit its study to the Ohio Department of Transportation to find out whether it concurs with the 45 mph recommendation.
On the west side of the Route 5/82 overpass, the speed limit is 35 mph because of the residential nature of the area, Hickman said.
