MEMPHIS TIGERS

LB Dillon out for year with shoulder injury

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

Memphis linebacker Jackson Dillon will miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.

Tigers coach Mike Norvell announced the severity of Dillon’s injury Wednesday. Dillon hurt his shoulder last week during the Tigers’ season-opening 37-29 victory over Louisiana-Monroe.

Dillon, a fifth-year senior from Ringling, Oklahoma, had played in only one game last season due to a knee injury. He made a combined 31 starts for Memphis from 2013-15.

Norvell said Memphis plans on checking to see if the NCAA will grant Dillon a sixth season of eligibility.

Memphis (1-0) next plays at UCF (1-0) on Friday in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The game was moved up a day due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.

FLORIDA GATORS

Freshman WR will sit out with heart ailment

GAINESVILLE, Fla.

No. 22 Florida will be without freshman receiver James Robinson indefinitely because of a heart issue.

Coach Jim McElwain made the announcement Wednesday after practice, saying “something” showed up in Robinson’s echocardiogram. McElwain added that Robinson will see heart specialists and “we’ll take every precaution to help him as he moves forward.”

The 6-foot-4 Robinson was suspended for the season opener against Michigan following an Aug. 21 marijuana possession citation. He also was cited for marijuana possession during his official visit to Ohio State in January.

McElwain took a chance by signing Robinson, who was considered one of the top-15 receivers coming out of Lakeland High School.

The Gators also will be without starting tight end DeAndre Goolsby (leg) against Northern Colorado on Saturday.

Florida did get some good news: safety Chauncey Gardner (foot) practiced and is expected to play.

ARMY GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Army, CBS Soirts extend partnership

WEST POINT, N.Y.

Army and CBS Sports have signed a multi-year deal that extends their partnership through 2022.

CBS Sports Network, which will televise seven Army football games this season, will continue to broadcast all home games at Michie Stadium as part of the agreement. The network also has the option to televise additional football games through the Patriot League, as well as select Army lacrosse and basketball games. Earlier this year, CBS Sports and Army and Navy agreed to a 10-year deal that extends the network’s broadcast, cable and digital rights for the rivalry football game through 2028.

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS

Injured WR Jennings out indefinitely

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones says that injured wide receiver Jauan Jennings is out “indefinitely.”

Jones didn’t specify the nature of Jennings’ injury, which kept the junior from playing in the second half of the 25th-ranked Volunteers’ 42-41 double-overtime victory over Georgia Tech on Monday. The coach also offered no timetable for when Jennings might be able to return.

Jennings finished the 2016 season with 40 receptions for 580 yards and seven touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in a victory over Florida and a Hail Mary reception to beat Georgia.

Jones also said that offensive tackle Drew Richmond would be available for Saturday’s game with Indiana State (0-1). Richmond was suspended for the Georgia Tech game due to a violation of team rules.

CONNECTICUT HUSKIES

Travel concerns prompt time change

STORRS, Conn.

Travel concerns prompted officials to move the start of Saturday’s football game between No. 21 South Florida and UConn to 10:30 a.m.

The game had been scheduled for noon in East Hartford, Connecticut, well out of Hurricane Irma’s path.

The issue for USF was the potential impact the storm may have on the Tampa area, including if it would impede the Bulls getting home after the game.

UConn said Wednesday the decision was made to move up the start time after the schools consulted with officials from the American Athletic Conference.

The teams are both in the AAC’s East Division, but there was not a shared off date for rescheduling.

The conference says halftime will be just 15 minutes and USF will depart immediately after the game, with no media availabilities at the stadium.
