Police arrested a man and woman on a South Side street as they were investigating a complaint against them.
Laurie Webber, 47, of Salt Springs Road, and Logan Greer, 21, of Niles, were both arraigned Wednesday in municipal court before Judge Robert Milich on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Webber received an additional charge of aggravated menacing.
Bond for Greer was set at $20,000, and bond for Webber was set at $25,000. They are also barred from being around firearms and were no issued no-contact orders against the victim as well.
Reports said police were called about noon Tuesday to a home on Glacier Avenue, where a man told them he had taken Webber, his mother-in-law, shopping Monday evening before dropping her off at her home and returning to his home.
When the man returned home, he got a call from a number that belonged to Webber and someone said they wanted their marijuana back. The man denied taking any marijuana, reports said.
Reports said the man left his home for the night after four men got out of a pickup truck and began peering through his windows.
The man returned Tuesday and called police. As he was talking to officers, a van driven by Webber drove by and the man pointed it out.
Police went to stop it. As they did, Greer threw something in the back seat, reports said. Reports said when officers approached the driver’s door they saw a round of ammunition and a magazine for a gun. They asked Webber if there was a gun in the van, and she replied there was one under the seat, reports said.
Under the seat police found a .22-caliber rifle and in the back of the van was a 30-round clip of ammunition, reports said.
Both Greer and Webber were taken to the Mahoning County jail before their arraignment.
