High school films will vie for awards

YOUNGSTOWN

The fifth annual Friends4Friends Campaign film festival will take place Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., featuring short films made by students at Austintown Fitch, Bedford, Campbell Memorial, James A. Garfield and Western Reserve high schools. The public is welcome to attend. Admission is free.

Voting for the best films begins today. To vote, go to OK Inc.’s YouTube channel (OK_inc), and “like” your favorite short film. A “like” is a vote for that film. The film with the most “likes” will win OK, Inc.’s 2017 Friends4Friends Short Film Award. Awards will also go to best actress and actor, best adult performance, and many more categories.

All the films address major issues facing youth today: sexual pressure, heroin addiction, cutting and cyberbullying. Bringing these important topics to life on the big screen gives students the opportunity to address the issues and develop strategies to stand up and speak out for healthy living.
