Butler exhibit on art of printmaking
YOUNGSTOWN
The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., will present a new exhibition offering a comprehensive look at the art of printmaking in the United States.
Titled “100 Years of American Print Making from the Butler Collection,” the show opens Sept. 17 and will be on view through Nov. 19. The exhibition will then travel to the Museum of Art in Deland, Fla., where it will go on display in January.
Composed of about 100 rare works alongside classic images, this special exhibition is part of a collection the Butler has been building over the decades. Encompassing works from the likes of Mary Cassatt, Romare Bearden, Robert Cottingham, James McNeil Whistler, Robert Motherwell, Roy F. (Fox) Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Edward Hopper, and other renowned artists, “100 Years of American Print Making from the Butler Collection” presents a virtual who’s who of American printmaking.
“It can be said that every artistic movement and principle artist of the past century is included in this exhibition,” said Louis Zona, director and curator of the Butler. “‘100 Years of American Print Making from the Butler Collection’ offers a wonderful journey through American art history, from American Impressionism through 21st century conceptual and expressionistic directions.”
